LYTTELTON TRAFFIC

No-one Caught Speeding

Because of complaints of speeding on Norwich quay a micro-wave check was made one week-day morning between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m. but no cases of speeding were recorded, Traffic Officer D. W. Simpson reported at a meeting of the Lyttelton Borough Council on Monday evening.

The micro-wave unit was also used on a Friday night in Norwich quay when traffic for the inter-island ferry was the busiest and the average speed of vehicles was less than 30 miles an hour. The unit was positioned where it could not be easily seen. There were 20 parking offences in the borough in November, said Traffic Officer Simpson. Fifteen vehicles had no warrants of fitness, and six motorists failed to carry their driver’s licence.
