Move To Abandon Swimming Levy

(New Zealand Press Association!

TIMARU.

The South Canterbury Swimming Centre has decided to test the feelings of other centres in New Zealand on the recent decision of the national association to make a registration fee of £1 on all swimmers from the 196768 season.

The centre will do this with a view to preparing a remit advocating the removal of the levy for the next annual conference of the association. The announcement of the associations intention caused an uproar at a meeting of the centre in Timaru. It was stated that the introduction of the levy could mean the death of organised swimming In the district. The centre also decided to inform the New Zealand association that it strongly objected to the move—and the manner in which the decision was made. Members considered that

the proposal, which came from the floor of the conference and not in the form of a remit, should have been circulated to all centres for their views before any action was taken.
