To Seek Record
An application for a New Zealand junior short course record will be made on behalf of the Commonwealth Carnes Swimming representative, Tui Shipston, who recorded the exceptionally fast time of 2niin 43.75ec over 220 yd butterfly at the St. Albans pool on Saturday. There are no national junior records for boys or girls in this event. But officials hope that the N.Z.A.S.A. council will recognise the time, in view of its closeness to times recorded by the New Zealand women's
chamipon and record-holder. Miss R. L. Kerr. Swimming solo. Miss Shipston passed the 100 yd mark in about Imin 12.5 sec and maintained her stroke rating to achieve a 220 yd time which qualified her for the Australian and New Zealand senior title events. The previous evening she broke both the Canterbury senior and junior 110 yd butterfly records in the Centennial pool. She now holds three New Zealand and 13 Canterbury records.
