Stablemates Take Trotters ’ Races

Glen Dee and Halberg, from C. V. May’s Methven team, won the Rawhiti Handicap and the North Beach Handicap, the races for trotters at Addington Raceway on Saturday.

Glen Dee is now eligible for the main races for trotters, including the £3OOO Canterbury Park Trotting Cup, to be run within the next six weeks.

Glen Dee’s win was an outrtanding run as he broke when handy near the mile post and dropped back to be tenth.

Free Return set the pace, with Glen Dee improving to fourth at the straight entrance, Astralight and Johnny Gee also being ahead of him. Glen Dee responded well for T. M. May, and he got up to shade Johnny Gee by a neck. Johnny Gee was a good way back ''arly, but he soon improved. His effort was most encouraging. Castleton's Gift, after breaking near the seven furlongs, made up a lot of ground for third only half a head away, a head in front of a strong finisher, Forward March. Asia Minor, which did not receive a good run. was a neck away fifth, clear of Seven Nights. Tronso. which was checked early, and Free Return.

Queen’s Cord, Flying Maiden, Uteena, Dreaming and Marshella were among those to make mistakes. A former champion juvenfletrotter, Halberg, gained his first win since being purchased by Mr A. Macale, of Wyndham, when he beat Our Debbie in the North Beach Handicap. Halberg, which

trailed Cordsworth to the straight, ran on much more strongly than he did at Orari, where he broke, and won by a length and a half from Our Debbie, which came home strongly. Cordsworth and Tatsy Brigade, which came home fairly well, dead-heated for third a neck further back, just ahead of Madam Scott, Del Reno and Phoebe Martial. Milford Nurse was checked early and did not recover.
