Canterbury’s Close Match (From Our Own Reporter) BLENHEIM. Canterbury won both its Slazenger Shield tennis matches, but against Nelson only after several count-backs, at Blenheim at the week-end. Canterbury beat Marlborough, 10-0, but tied in matches with Nelson, 5-all. The two teams also tied sets 11-pll but Canterbury won on games. 118-106. The matches were played in a gale. Results:— Canterbury v. Marlborough Singles.—W. Tuck beat P. Radd, 6-1, 6-2; beat G. Hale, 6-1, 6-1, J. Cowern beat R. Avery. 6-2, 6-3; beat J. Cooke, 7-5, 6-1. P. McGoldrick beat Hale, 2-6. 6-4, 6-2: beat Radd, 6-0, 6-1. R. Webster beat Cooke, 6-3. 6-4: beat Avery, 6-2, 6-1. Doubles.—Tuck and McGoldrick beat Hale and Radd, 6-0, 6-1. Cowern and Webster beat Cooke and Avery, 6-4, 6-0. Canterbury v. Nelson

Singles.—Tuck beat R. Collelo, 6-4, 6-1; lost to A. Wright, 5- 2-6. Cowern beat G. Rogers, 8-6, 6-1; lost to I. Bartlett, 7-9. 6- 4-6; McGoldrick lost to Wright, 4-6, 4-6; lost to Collelo, 4-6, 7-9; L. Haines beat Bartlett. 6-3, 5-7, 6-3; beat Rogers, 6-2. 6-2. Doubles. —Tuck and McGoldrick lost to Wright and Collelo, 3-6, 5-7; Cowan and Haines beat Bartlett and Rogers, 6-4, 6-4.
