INDIANS LEAD
Zone Final Davis Cup (N.Z.P A.-Reuter—-Copyright) CALCUTTA. India went into a 2-1 lead against Brazil at Calcutta yesterday when it won the doubles match in the Davis Cup inter-zone final. R. Krishnan and J. Mukherjea beat T. Koch and J. E. Mandarino, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 63. The tie now hangs on the results of today’s reverse singles in which Mukherjea meets Mandarino and Koch plays Krishnan. Koch, the Brazilian No. 1, won the opening singles on Saturday beating Mukherjea, 6-2, 6-2, 6-3. Krishnan, the Indian captain, squared the tie with a hard-fought 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 63 victory over Mandarino. The winner of the tie will meet Australia, the cup holder, in the challenge round, starting in Melbourne on December 26.
