American View

f.V Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND, November 29.

New Zealanders were dull people and there was nothing Interesting to see in New Zealand, many Americans had said in giving reasons why they did not want to visit the country, the Auckland branch of the Market Research Society was told last night.

The marketing manager of Air New Zealand, Mr N. R. Searle, said in an address on the value of market research that such work had been essential before Air New Zealand opened up its service to

the United States and Hong Kong. A prominent American advertising agency carrying out a survey for Air New Zealand had found that of countries in the South Pacific. New Zealand only ranked fifth in interest shown by Americans.

New Zealand was too hard to get to, had no interesting attractions, had no culture and the people were too dull, the survey found.

Mr Searle said Air New Zealand would have to counter these accusations in its advertising campaign in the United States.
