Apple Board Growers Replace Mr Sampson
(New Zealand Press Association)
HASTINGS, November 30.
The term of the deputy-chairman of the Apple and Pear Board, Mr H. R. Sampson, of Christchurch, expired today and has not been renewed.
Mr Sampson’s fellow directors on the Fruitgrowers’ Federation have selected a young Hastings orchardist, Mr K. W. Kiddle, to replace him.
Federation directors meeting in Christchurch this week decided to recommend this step to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys). Mr Sampson is one of two grower representatives on the board. The other is Mr D. Sinclair, of Nelson. The Apple and Pear Marketing Act, allows the pip-fruit industry, through the Fruit-
growers’ Federation, to select its own representatives on the board, but these require the Minister’s approval. The president of the federation, Mr H. Osborne, of Hastings. confirmed today that his directors had chosen Mr Kiddle as Mr Sampson’s successor. He declined further comment
In Christchurch Mr Sampson said that he, too, had no comment.
