NATIONAL MEDAL
One national medal was presented at the annual Canterbury Horticultural Society rose and cut flower show yesterday. Dr. D. Mcllroy, of Christchurch. won the Royal English National Rose Society medal with a 66 point average for the three exhibition roses, five decorative and three florabunda roses he presented.
Mr A. Scott, president of the National Rose Society and judge of the special classes, said the award was the more commendable because of the weather before the show. The hail this year affected the blooms, he said.
To gain a national medal, blooms must have an average of <0 out of 109 points each. The points are awarded on the basis of form, substance, brightness. size of stem and balance of foliage In each bloom.
