CLASS FIELD FOR FIRST MOTO-CROSS

Virtually every New Zealand scrambles rider of any repute has entered the opening meeting of the Wills international moto-cross series, to be held at Findlay’s Farm, Halswell, on December 11.

Only the South Island open champion, G. Holland (Christchurch), the New Zealand 250 c.c. titleholder, G. Terry (Palmerston North), and former South Island champions, N. McElwaine (Blenheim), I. Boorer (Timaru) and W. Veitch (Dunedin), ate missing. However, late entries were expected from most of these riders later in the week, said

Mr J. A. Fraser, secretary of International Moto-Cross, Christchurch, yesterday. G. Stapleton (Christchurch), one of the leading riders in the country has notified Mr Fraser that he will be a late entry. He is awaiting the arrival of a new machine, a 360 c.c. C.Z.. and hopes to race on this. He is expected to confirm his entry today. Heading the list of entries are the three visiting internationals, J. Burton (England). !K. Hickman (England) and P. Hunt (America). They will arrive in Christchurch on December 8 and will have two days to familiarise themselves with the Findlay’s farm circuit. Hunt is the only one of the three who competed in last year’s series. Cleghorn For N.Z.

| His brother, B. Horton, will jalso be competing on a 250 c.c. Greeves special. The three prominent Blenheim riders, N. Miller. I. Miller and D. Boyce, have entered and will all be riding new machines. N. Miller will have his newly constructed Spartan J.A.P., I. Miller, his younger brother, will be riding a 500 c.c. Metisse, and Boyce will be mounted on a new 250 c.c. Greeves. Other leading New Zealand riders competing include G. Wroblenski (Palmerston North), R. K. Kilgour (Dunedin). C. Schultz (Eketahuna), N. Currie (Christchurch). R. Meyer (Christchurch), and A. Sabiston (Dunedin).

The New Zealand international, K. Cleghorn (Palmerston North), is a definite starter and will probably be the official New Zealand representative in the series. Representing Australia for the third season in succession will be the former Ariel works rider, A. T. Gibbes, now living in Palmerston North. Of considerable interest will- be the performance of the Christchurch rider, W. Horton, who has been competing in Europe for the last two years. He arrives back shortly before the event. He is bringing with him a 250 c.c. Greeves and a 500 c.c. Metisse.
