(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) CAPE TOWN. Australia overwhelmed Western Province at Newlands on Monday, winning by an innings and 108 runs with more than a day to spare.
The Western Province batsmen fought dourly for four hours, the bespectacled F. Drummer, sent in as a nightwatchman, holding the Australian bowlers at bay for 233 minutes to score 48. But the Province’s cause was hopeless and the arrival of the second new ball quickly wound up the innings on the tea adjournment. Scores: Australia 504/9 dec., Western Province 191 and 205 (Watson 3/28). Ceylon Loses Test Series (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) DACCA. Ceylon dramatically collapsed against the Pakistani spin bowlers on Monday and was beaten in the second test by an innings and 37 runs. Ceylon, resuming at 153 for three, still needed 151 to clear off its first innings arrears, and was all out for 267. The off-spinner, Saeed Ahmad, took five for 82, and the legspinner, Intikhab Alam, two for 60. Pakistan won the first test of the three-test series by 10 wickets.
Transferred.— One of New Zealand’s leading fencers and a veteran of three Commonwealth Games, R. S. J. Binning, has moved from Hastings to Botorua. Rugby Profit. — The Sydney Rugby Union will make a profit of between 9000 and 10,000 dollars In its first season of operation.
