DEPOSIT ON BOOKS
Non-residents will pay a 10s deposit for rental books they borrow, it was decided at the annual meeting of the Sumner Public Library. Some people were taking books from the library and not returning them, said Mrs D. Bennett. Members decided that the 10s deposit should be paid in addition to the usual rental, but the deposit would be returned after all books had been returned by the borrower.
Life members will be entitled to only two books free of charge each time they use the library. The library had bought 477 new books in the last year and 24,452 books had been taken out of the library during the year, said the president (Mr E. Huston) in his annual report. This figure represented nearly one book a week for the 500 subscribers in the library. Officers elected were:— Patron, Mr N. E. Kirk, M.P.: president Mr E. Huston; vicepresidents, Miss F. Jennings and Mrs R. Hannah; secretary, Mr D. Sexton; treasurer, Mrs I. M. Quilter; auditor, Mr J. C. Saunders; committee, Mesdames B. Meads, M. Carter, J. Allen, H. Andrew, D. Bennett, D. Coman, F. Myers, Misses M. Lacey, E. Pengelly, IMr A. Bennett.
