CARPENTERS’ DISPUTE
Plumbers Give Support
A meeting of the Canterbury Plumbers’ Union had voted unanimous support for carpenters involved in the ban at the Fletcher Construction Company’s job at the International Harvester Company’s project at Blenheim Road, said the union’s secretary (Mr R. J. Pitcairn). Verbal assurances of moral support for the carpenters, he said, had been received from other affected unions. The carpenters are seeking the same conditions and rates of pay received by Fletcher company employees in Wellington and Auckland. The ban was imposed on Monday of last week.
