“Just Like Rotorua’
Yesterday afternoon's downpour was responsible for a fire call to the Russley Hotel. Water seeped into the bottle store and caused a short-cir-cuit in the automatic alarm system. One report to “The Press” was that heavy rain and hail falling into the heated swimming pool at the hotel caused a great deal of steam, and this was mistaken for smoke. However, this was not true, said the manager, Mr E. J. Shaw, ( “There was a lot of steam (from the pool, though,” he said. “It was just like Roto Irua.”
