Rosalind Sold To Previous Owner
The Lyttelton fishing trawler Rosalind, which was salvaged from a shingle bank near the mouth of the Hurunui river by Ryan Bros., has been sold to P. Feron and Son, Ltd.
The Rosalind was owned by Feron and Son, Ltd., and insured for £lB,OOO when it was beached on the bank after drifting six hours from off
the Lyttelton heads when fire disabled its engine.
The crew got off the ship just before it went on the bank.
Unsuccessful attempts were made to vow the 30-ton trawler off the bank. It was battered by heavy seas and moved about 100 yards south before it was sold by the underwriters.
Ryan Brothers bought the trawler by tender. They moved the ship with bulldozers and got the engine going again, but the Rosalind sank in about 30ft of water 100 yards off shore. The trawler was hauled back on to the bank and repaired. A slipway was made with logs and railway lines and the Rosalind was launched last month. She was taken back to Lyttelton under her own power. “It was a worthwhile venture from both the financial and experience points of view,” said a spokesman for Ryan Brothers. The Rosalind will be,slipped for extensive repairs and, it is believed, will I later rejoin the Lyttelton fish ing fleet
