Recreation Areas
Sir,—Mr Gilpin has remarked on the need for further recreational areas in Christchurch. Existing facilities seem to be fairly evenly spread, except for the St. Andrews Hill-Mount Pleasant area. Because this t Is a hill
area there is a problem of suitable land, but adjacent to this area, and easily accessible to residents here and elsewhere, is the land bordered by Humphreys drive, Linwood avenue and Ferry road, which would be suitable. To daily or week-end drivers this area is an eyesore, but with appropriate treatment it could become a useful asset. A survey is being made of the Estuary and several interested organisations are developing Ferrymead, which is administered by the Heathcote Council Could, perhaps, the City Council make a start on their land by beautifying these roads and providing a public golf course on the land enclosed by them?—Yours, etc., FILL THE GAPS. September 22, 1966. [Councillor V. R. Skellerup, chairman of the reserves committee of the Christchurch City Council, was invited to comment on this letter. No reply has been received].
