DEFENCE PACT
Syria And U.A.R. (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) CAIRO, Nov. 4. Syria and the United Arab Republic reached a “common defence agreement” and agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations yesterday. The announcement by the U.A.R. Foreign Minister (Mahmoud Riad) means that the two countries are closer than at any time since Syria seceded from the short-lived merger in 1961.
