V. Cong Mortars And Grenades
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) SAIGON, November 4. Viet Cong guerrillas rained more than 100 mortar shells on a United States infantrybrigade base close to the Cambodian border early today.
An American military spokesman said there were two attacks in about three hours on the 19th light infantry brigade camp three miles west of Tay Ninh city. About 100 shells crashed into the camp in the first attack and another 20 to 30 followed '’tiring a second barrage about dawn. United States casualties were described as light. In Saigon, officials said Viet Cong killed 13 civilians and wounded seven others in two attacks yesterday.
Ten women and children died when a three-wheeled van was mined near Can Tho, about 50 miles from the capital. A security officer and two children died when terrorists threw grenades into a house in the Gia Dinh area of Saigon. American Air Force FlO5 Thunderchiefs and Starfighters and navy Skyhawk jets destroyed 15 trucks and eight transporters in attacks on convoys in North Vietnam’s southern coastal area, a United States spokesman said.
