The Age Of Mass Murder
Sir, —I was most interested in “L.G.P.’s” comments on democracy. It seems that the threat to our democratic way of life comes not so much from foreign dictators but from within. It comes from well-meaning people who are determined to force upon us what they consider will be good for us, irrespective' of whether we want it or not. The danger to democracy comes from minority pressures which seek to overcome the majority’s wish, as, for example, through denying a referendum, or, worse still, having one, and then taking no notice of the result because it does not suit. The threat also comes from those elected representatives who believe the propagandists that they should “have the courage to make decisions” on matters which rightfully belong to the individual to decide.—Yours, etc., VULCAN.
