“Dirty Books”
Sir, —For the benefit of the younger writers, “Time and Tide” asserts that the dynamic 40-year-old chairman of the Pergamon Press is the most successful of all Britain’s post-war publishers: and he and other publishers are getting together to stop the publication of “dirty” books. Well, then, times will be changing from the smutty novel; and writers surely need no longer dig deep into the cesspool of the mind to find a place.—Yours, etc., L.C.L.H. October 20, 1966.
