Final Guy Fit

“The Press” Special Service , PALMERSTON NORTH. Final Guy looked as impressive as any of the Trentham candidates seen at Awapuni yesterday. He was a neck in front of Janeen, with Captain Sam beaten off at the finish of six furlongs in Imin 20sec, the last three in 39 3-ssec. Final Guy finished well after tailing off early. He is in the Rimutaka Handicap. The Final Court colt will not be three until next month so is not being asked for much this season. His race tomorrow probably will be his last for this year. He is very promising, but, as a slow beginner, his inside draw may be more a hindrance than a help. Janeen also worked well yesterday and should be prominent against the stayers on Monday.

Dervish pleased when he galloped six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec. the last three in 36 4-5. Dervish was unlucky in the Wainui Handicap. He could win the Pearce Handicap for the second successive year. Plantation joined Dervish for the last half-mile and the pair finished on terms.

On the plough Laramie looked to be working well alongside Roman Consul at the finish of seven furlongs in Imin 31 3-ssec. the last three in 38sec. It was a useful effort, but both horses will need to improve on recent efforts to have a chance in the Watkins Handicap. Gold Mint, which had no luck tn the running on the first day at Trentham. completed five furlongs in Imin 4sec, the last three in 38 2-Ssec. He remains a good prospect for the Belmont Handicap.
