Gas Performs Well

Gus recorded a sound trial at Levin yesterday in preparation for the Watkins Handicap at Trentham on Saturday.
Gus (W. D. Skelton) finished on terms with Gave All (K. A. Aitken) after running half a mile together in 50sec, the last three furlongs taking 37 2-ssec.
Gus faded to near last on the first day at Trentham. but appears to have improved since, and should make a better showing in the Watkins Handicap. My Call (K. A. Aitken) and Garnishee (N. E. Eastwood) recorded the fastest five furlongs of the morning. They ran the distance in Imin 34sec. the last three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. My
Call Is still gross, but Is coming up well. Rashid (W. D. Skelton) and Fremont <K. Coombe) finished together after five furlongs in Imin 5 3-ssec, the last three in 39 4-ssec. Rashid ran poorly In the Wainui Handicap last week. This week he Is in the Watkins Handicap, but would have to show improvement. Bren's Pride and Tracey (W. Searle) covered five furlongs in Imin 5 3-ssec. the last three taking 39 l-ssec. Tracey is engaged in the Awatea Handicap, but it Is doubtful if she will fulfil this engagement. She is likely to be reserved for the final day of the meeting. Point Duty was not worked at the track yesterday. He has improved with his race last week, but whether he will start in the Rimutaka Handicap or the Belmont Handicap has not been decided.
