She covered the dis- 1 tance in 49 4-ssec, running her final three in 35 4-ssec, which : was outstanding work for a < hack. 1 J. W. Harris was pleased with ; both horses after the trial. He s said that Sherlocks seldom pro- i duced his best in training. Fair Alex was let off with an I •asy half-mile in 51 2-ssec, with <
Dark Smudge and Min Flleka. Fair Alex is ready for a good race in the Karitane Handicap. Marine ran a mile tn Imin 46 2-ssec. He looked to be in good condition and strode out well. He was joined at the six furlongs by Automaton, which led him home in Imin 19sec, taking 40sec for her final three furlongs. It was good work by both horses. Olympian was in good form. He was prominent early from Baloo over a mile and was alongside his better-performed companion at the finish. Their time was Imin 46Jsec and they ran in from the six in Imin 19sec, taking 40sec for the final three. There could be a doubt about a start for Basilio at Trentham on Saturday, according to his trainer. E. Ropiha. Arakhan is another which may bypass his second day engagement. There is nothing amiss with either horse and should the ground be fast their plans could be changed.
