BOYCOTT OF MARKETS

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 19. Auckland fruit and vegetable retailers have threatened to boycott the city markets if agreement to arbitrate with the growers over higher container charges is not reached by then. A meeting of retailers yesyesterday decided to ask the Federation of Retail Fruiterers and Greengrocers to investigate the possibility of instituting proceedings for an injunction to prevent any action contrary to the Watson award. This award provides for arbitration in disputes over increases in the price of vegetable containers. Since Monday, Auckland retailers have been paying Is—an extra 3d—for banana cases in which vegetables are marketed. The charge was imposed by the growers after the retailers had offered 9d, or arbitration if this was unacceptable.
