EXTRA CARE URGED
Labour Weekend Driving (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. The Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) today urged motorists to take extra care during Labour week-end. “Labour week-end has an unenviable record for road accidents and extra care must be taken by all motorists during this danger period,” he said.
“Many town drivers will be crowding the country roads, some driving for long periods at a stretch. They must keep their speeds down during the week-end. Plain-car patrols will also be out in force.” Last year six persons were killed and 250 injured at Labour week-end.
Mr McAlpine said this total could well be exceeded if drivers did not use “much more intelligent anticipation and patience than they have in the past."
