A leading South African psychiatrist yesterday testifield that Dr Hendrik Verwoerd’s accused assassin was mentally ill and should be confined in an asylum. Dr Isaac Zakanowsky told the Cape Province Supreme Court that Demetrio Tsafendas suffered from a form of schizophrenia known as pharaphrenia and “at any time under the influence of his diseased brain he could commit an act of violence.
