Murder Charge Remand
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 29. Robert Ernest Eynon, a 21-year-old bagmaker, was charged in the Magistrate’s Court today with murdering a journalist, Dexter Norman Webb, in Wellington last Sunday. Eynon, described on the charge sheet as a half-Maori, was remanded without plea till Friday of next week. Bearded, stockily built and wearing a black polo-neck jersey and dark trousers, he
was in the dock for less than a minute.
Webb, aged 23, was fatally stabbed in a Brougham street flat early on Sunday morning. Eynon was arrested last night.
This morning about 70 persons, including several girls, crowded the public section of the court.
Mr J. A. Wicks, S.M., was on the bench.
The charge alleged that last Sunday in Wellington Eynon “did murder Dexter Norman Webb.”
Detective - Senior Sergeant B. F. Scott asked for a remand till tomorrow week.
Counsel for Eynon, Mr B. McK. Kerr, said he had no objection, and Mr Wicks granted the remand. Eynon was brought to the court a few minutes before the Court’s starting-time 10 am.
In the courtyard, Eynon, crouching and holding both hands up to his face, hurried the few yards from the car into the Court.
