The Australian Army is buying thousands of armalite rifles from the United States for limited issue to all battalions and infantry training units. The Army Minister (Mr J. Fraser) said today there was no intention to replace the standard Australian infantry weapon—the 7.62 mm selfloading rifle—with the armalite. He said the armalite would be used for special purposes.
