China Says U.S. Plane Intruded
(N.Z. Press Association— Copyright? TOKYO, September 18. China today alleged that a United States aircraft intruded into China’s air space near the North Vietnamese border yesterday “for reconnaissance and provocation,” the Associated Press reported.
The agency quoted the spokesman as saying: “The recent repeated intrusions by United States military aircraft into China’s territorial air for war provocations have aroused the boundless indignation of the Chinese people.
“The Chinese people, who have a high revolutionary vigilance, will never allow the United States pirates to make such unscrupulous intrusions.” In Washington, the State Department had no immediate comment on the Peking allegation. Nor did a spokesman have any further information on China’s charge yesterday that a United States plane attacked a Chinese village on September 9. Peking's New China News Agency said that Chinese planes intercepted the United States craft and damaged it a$ it “fled southwards in confusion”.
The N.C.NA. broadcast, monitored in Tokyo, claimed that the American plane flew over the area of Lungchow and Chungtso in the Kwangsi Chuang autonomous region. Chungtso is about 70 miles south-west of Nanning, and north of Tunghing, where
