PLANS FOR TAVERN
Waimairi Told Of Problems
Problems which have arisen in getting plans prepared in support of the council’s wish to have a licensing trust tavern established at Bishopdale were reported to the Waimairi County Council at its meeting this week. The Engineer (Mr I. Calvert) had asked for a ruling on preparation of sketch plans for the tavern, the finance committee reported. He said that a firm of architects might be able to do the work, but the cost could be quite high. The committee agreed that the tavern plans were needed urgently, but that they could not be put ahead of the Fendalton community centre project in view of the stipulation by the Golden Kiwi Board of Control that the centre must be completed within a year. Mr Calvert said that the council's architect could do them in three to four weeks. Mr Calvert said that architectural work was proceeding on various projects approved in principle by the council. These included plans for the Fendalton community centre, working drawings for the Bishopdale and Papanui community centres, sketch plans for Papanui, sketch plans and working drawings for the engineering and traffic departments, plans for a new Riccarton library roof, the pensioner flats in Daniels road, and other building work.
