DROWNED IN RIVER

fN.Z. Press Asfdation) INVERCARGILL, Sept. 11. A child was drowned in the Aparima river on his parents' farm three miles from Otautau this afternoon. He was: Jeoffrey Robert Baird, aged three, son of Mr and Mrs K. N. Baird, of Strathvale. The child was playing with his six-year-old brother, Alister Baird, and three other children on the banks of the river about 4.45 p.m. when he decided to go for a swim. He took off his clothes, slipped into the river and disappeared. At 5.30 p.m. his uncle, Mr A. Baird, who has the adjoining farm, found the child lying face down in a backwater about 400 yards downstream.
