Women Killed In Collisions
A woman was killed when two cars collided at the corner of Oakhurst place and Bentley street, Upper Riccarton, about 11.45 a.m. on Saturday. Two women died in an accident near Whakatane yesterday. The woman killed in Christchurch was: Irene Gladys Kerr, aged 52, married, of 7 Bentley street. Mrs Kerr was dead when taken to the Christchurch Hospital by St. John ambulance. The other car was driven by Nicholas John Simms of 60 Bevington street. Two Die Two married women were killed when a car left the Whakatane-Tauranga highway about three miles from Whakatane at 1.30 a.m. yesterday, the Press Association reports. They were: Grace Arnst, aged 34, of Whakatane, and Geraldine Faye Terressa Winn, aged 27, of Edgecumbe Mrs Amst’s husband, Rex Guss Arnst, was injured. He was in a satisfactory condition in hospital yesterday. Another man in the car, Archibald Edgar McDonald, of Te Teko, was discharged from hospital after treatment.
Knocked Down An elderly pedestrian died after being knocked down by a car outside the Mayfair Hotel, Karamu road, Hastings, on Friday night. He was: William Henry Davey, retired, of Duke street, Hastings.
