Boy Scout Bridge
A temporary suspension foot bridge, made of ropes and supported by two larch pylons, will be built over the Heathcote river this afternoon, by 15 members of the Redcliffs Scouts and the Lyttelton Sea Scouts. It will be erected in the Canal reserve at the corner of Charlesworth street and Linwood avenue. The scoutmaster for the Redcliffs Scout Group (Mr N. M. Hines) said yesterday that the scouts would practise putting up the bridge in the Redcliff’s sports ground this morning. If they were successful they would move to the river site in the afternoon. "The bridge will give the boys a chance to practise some of the skills they have learnt,” he said, “and it will also give them an opportunity to achieve something a bit spectacular.” , Mr Hines will be assisted by the assistant scoutmaster of the Lyttelton Sea Scouts (Mr N. S. Atkins).
