TURNOVER LOWER
Broadcasting Criticised A claim that the policy of the broadcasting authorities had been responsible for a fall of £lO,OOO in off-course turn-over was made by the president (Mr W. J. Murray) at the annual meeting of the Marlborough Trotting Club. Mr Murray claimed that the drop was the result of the broadcasting of his club’s meeting by the local station 2ZE, which was barely audible in parts of Marlborough, let alone outside the district Previously the club’s meetings had been broadcast by 2YA Wellington. It had also been disappointing that the double races on the Saturday had not been broadcast over the commercial network, said Mr Murray. The club showed a profit of £36, against £259 for the previous year. Had it not been for taxation relief, a loss would have been shown. The Waterlea course will be free of debt in 1970. It was not too early for plans to be made for a new members’ and stewards’ stand, said Mr Murray. Officers elected were:—President, Mr Murray; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs H. J. Taylor, J. D. Woodham; honorary treasurer, Mr J. C. Scollard; committee, Messrs A. E. Creswell, B. J. C. Fleming, J. H. Fletcher, T. Glover, J. L. Green, J. R. Hudson, R. R. Mcßae, W. Mancer, A. G. Pope, A. C. Ruffell, R. M. Smith, S. F. Thomas.
