N.Z.-Bred Horses Score At Warwick Farm

(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) SYDNEY. New Zealand-bred horses had four wins and a second at Warwick Farm on Saturday. Garcon (Rawalpindi II Festive Air) beat the 3 to 1 on favourite, Prince Max, by half a head in the seven-furlong Hobartville Stakes. Garcon was brilliantly ridden by G. Moore and came again in the straight after being headed by the favourite. It was the fifth successive win for Garcon, which is being prepared for the A.J.C. Derby.

The shock of the day was provided by the five-year-old Faux Tirage gelding Carnival, which produced a brilliant finishing burst to win the six-furlong Campbelltown Handicap at 100 to 1.

Carnival, which is being prepared for the Metropolitan Handicap in October, was given the sprint on Saturday only because his owner did not think he was forward enough for a longer distance. After firming from 6 to 1 to 15 to 1, the New Zealand filly What Fun produced a surprise win in the Fillies’ Three-year-old Maiden <7f). What Fun, which raced in New Zealand as Lots of Fun, was having her second Australian start after crossing the Tasman with the Waikato trainer J. P. Hayes. Last week at Rosehill the Chatsworth II filly started at 250 to 1 and ran nearly last of a field of 17. New Zealand’s other win was by the Summertime four-year-old Tobermory (2 to 1 joint favourite) which beat Nullegai by three lengths in the one-mlle Encourage Handicap. The Agricola—Sunbride colt, General Command, came into Derby reckoning with an impressive second in the third start of his career. General Command 12 to 1 favourite) was beaten by a short half-head by the 100 to 1 shot Red Prince, in the Colts’ Three-year-old Maiden tone mile).
