Avalanche On Egmont

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 14. A large avalanche on Mount Egmont fell about 2500 feet, two miles and a half above the Stratford Mountain House last week. The avalanche was about 180 feet wide and 30 feet deep and filled a basin at the top of the Manganui Gorge after falling from under the east ridge. The proprietor of the mountain house, Mr A, L. Mace, said the avalanche fell during Wednesday afternoon or evening. It filled a gully which the Manganui ski track crossed, but skiers were able to get past it without difficulty.
