Electricians Ban Harbour Board

GYew Zealand Presi Association) WELLINGTON, August 9. The executive of the North Island Electrical Workers’ Union tonight blacklisted all electrical services owned and operated by the Wellington Harbour Board.

This action followed a strike at 5 p.m. today by the 13 electricians employed by the board. The secretary of the union (Mr A. J. Neary) said tonight the executive had also decided to tell its members throughout the country not to “render any services to he Wellingon Harbour Board in any of its operations." Mr Neary said it would be

difficult to say what effect the ban would have until tomorrow morning. The general manager of the harbour board (Mr H. Meachen) refused to comment on the effect the strike and ban would have on loading and discharging cargoes. Mr Neary said the electricians would not resume work till the board entered into arbitration on a status quo before August 1. In a letter to the union today the board said that if the electricians worked in accordance with requirements set out in an earlier letter, the board would agree to urgent conciliation with the local conciliation commissioner presiding.
