Caged Birds
Sir, —May I commend the owner of the thrush on its beautiful condition? To say it is sadistic to keep it caged is utter nonsense. Never will that bird be slowly tormented to death by a cat. I saved a thrush and thought it right to release it. It would not go away, but I hardened myself. To my horror I found its chewed remains in my garden. Was this not sadistic: to save a bird, then release it again? I did not know you could keep them. —Yours, etc., THRUSH. June 16, 1966.
