FRIESIAN SALE
Average Of 126 Gns Buyers from Nelson to Invercargill attended the fifth annual sale of Deloraine Friesians held at Milford, Tetnuka, last week by Messrs N. J. Sherriff and Sons. Thirty female and male cattle sold for a total of nearly 3800gns and for- an average of 126gns a head. For the eighth successive time this herd has averaged more than 5001 b of fat under test and in the current season a progress report places the average for 74 cows at 5741 b of fat For a total of 21 females sold, the average was better than 120gns a head, prices ranging from 80gns to 175gns. The top money was paid by M. V. Dickie, of Gore, for Deloraine Magic Helen, which was born in 1965. Another sale of a mated two-year-old was also made to Mr Dickie at 160gns and another mated rising two-year-old was bought on account of W. G. Parkes and Sons (Tuamarina) for the same money. Fifteen in-calf two-year-old heifers sold for an average of 119jgns, four in-calf cows averaged 114gna and two yearHng heifers averaged 142|gns. Nine bulls ranged from 55gns up to 350gns. the top price of the sale being paid by R. N. Selbie, of Claremont, for Deloraine M. D. Count bom on August 11, 1965. The auctioneers in conjunction were the New Zealand Fanners* Co-operative Association, of Canterbury, Ltd., the Canterbury Fanners’ Cooperative Association, and The Farmers' Stud Stock Company.
