27 TEAMS RACING
Record For Event
A record field of 27 fiveman teams will contest the Anglican Harrier Club’s annual block relay through the Burwood plantations today.
Entries for a women’s relay and a colts’ scratch race are improvements on las* year, also.
The open relay will be on handicap, each runner doing a 4Hnile circuit mostly over broken ground through the pine plantations. Fresh from an excellent win in the Marist club’s Port Hills relay, the Christchurch No. I team Is heavily favoured for fastest time honours. The team will be the same, although the order of running has been changed to W. K. Kennedy, K. E. Williams. W. R. Green, B. Dyer, and J. T. Power.
Running from the back mark. Christchurch No. 1 will be giving its closest rival, Olympic No. 1, a two-minute start, while the limit teams, Presbyterian No. 3 and Anglican No. 2, will start 41 minutes ahead.
Without the services of the Canterbury champion, B. R. E. Jones, for the second race in succession. University No. 1 is eight minutes ahead. St. Martins has spread its strength between two teams with the result that its No. 1 team will have a start of 13 minutes. There should be some rivalry within the Christchurch team for the individual lap record which Kennedy holds at 23min 32sec.
