Births Down
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 3.
The drop in the birth rate which began in 1961, has continued into the March 1966 quarter, according to the Government Statistician. There were 14,964 births in the latest quarter, compared with 15,031 in the March quarter, 1965. The death rate was slightly higher in the March quarter. There was an increase of 119 deaths in the same period last year. Deaths registered in the first quarter 1966 were 5051 (including 263 Maoris). For the corresponding period last year the number was 4932.
Marriages in the March quarter were 5718, 349 more than in the first quarter of 1965.
