Ragged Play By Marist
SHIRLEY U: H. Grenfell, K. Erickson, J. Toki, R. Hicks tries; B. Richards kicked two conversions. MARIST 6: M. Forrest kicked two penalty goals. More vigorous in the forwards and with faster and more penetrative backs, Shirley was nevef really troubled by a rather ragged Marist team. Both teams made valiant attempts to play open Rugby but their good intentions foundered on dropped passes arid lack of cohesion in the back-lines.
Toki was a powerful runner for Shirley and K. Erickson was an impressive wing. In the Shirley pack, E. Veal was a good leader and M. Taylor and B. Binnie were also prominent In the tight. The Marist pack, ably led by O Stopforth, won most of the line-outs, but much of this possession was frittered away by the backs. Referee: Mr M. R. Barnett.
