K. FLETCHER WINS TITLE
Okker Beaten In Final (N.Z. P.A. -Reuter— Copyright) BOURNEMOUTH. K. Fletcher became the first Australian to win the British hard court singles title at Bournemouth since it was won by R. Laver in 1962. Dutch champion T. Okker 7-5, seed who is now living in Hong Kong, defeated the Dutch champion T. Okker,7-5, 6-4, in a match which although it provided two close sets, never became exciting. Both players had performed better during the week, and although Okker had one or two bright patches he never fulfilled either his potential or promise. Fletcher was steady and the more imaginative player, and with leads of 4-1 in the first set, and 5-1 in the second, he hardly seemed in any danger. Only spasms of carelessness on his part allowed Okker to make the score more presentable. A British player Anne Jones, aged 27, who has long been recognised as the United Kingdom’s outstanding and most reliable tennis player won the women’s singles title for the fourth successive year with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory over 20-year-old Virginia Wade. In the all-British men’s doubles final, R. Taylor and R. K. Wilson beat M. Sangster and A. Mills, 60, 7-5.
