MORE TENNIS PRACTICE
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.AJ LONDON. A court at Bournemouth, where the British hardcourt tennis championships are currently being played, has been made available to the New Zealand Davis Cup team so it can get some much needed practice.
With the defeat of the captain, L. A. Gerrard, all four members of the team have been knocked out of the men’s singles championship. “The team is coming along fine,” Gerrard said. “But we need some more practice. “So far we have been hampered by rain. We seem to play one day and then have a couple of days off because of rain.” The team returns to London tomorrow to prepare for its European zone tie against Britain later in the week, and Gerrard said they would practice for about five hours a day before the game. The four members of the team—Gerrard. K. Woolcott, 0 Parun and B. E. Fairlie —
will play in the tie and the singles players will be announced just before the series starts. Woolcott, who has an injured wrist, is to have it examined by a specialist when the team returns to London. He played in a doubles match at Bournemouth but his injury—suffered before he left New Zealand —was still giving him some trouble, Gerrard said. Singles Semi-finals The British number one, M. J. Sangster, and an Australian, K. Fletcher, will meet in one semi-final of the hardcourt singles championship. In the other semi-final, T. Okker (Holland) will play R. K. Wilson (Britain).
