(N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. Bidding for the mare, Trial Offer, at yesterday's tenth annual Manawatu thoroughbred sale approached the reserve figure, but failed to tempt her joint owners, Messrs B. Hayter. and C. W. Barry. She was taken out of the ring after reaching 9250 guineas. The highest price paid at the sale was 410 guineas for which Mr H. Macdonald, of Ashhurst, bought Eileen Gloss from Mr and Mrs S. McGreal, of Otaki. Mr McGreal, who will leave next Monday to take up an appointment in Melbourne, sold some of his racing and stud stock. He also sold Excite to Mr J. Hunter for 350 guineas. The auctioneers, Wright, Stephenson and Company. Ltd., sold 30 lots for a total of 3435 guineas, at an average of more than 114 guineas. Everglades, formerly raced in the South Island, was sold by his Dunedin owner, Mr A. N. Smith, to Mr J. S. Morrison for 140 guineas.
