Precautions At Boat Races
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. More than 70 rescue boats will safeguard competitors in the off-shore power boat races in Auckland on Saturday. Boats will be stationed at half-mile intervals along the course for the two sponsored races. Each will have a radiotelephone and will be positioned with the aid of search and rescue grid charts. As each competitor passes, the nearest rescue boat will radio the number of the craft and its place in the race. If a boat disappears between checkpoints, one of five rescue launches will go to its aid.
