FERTILISER SALES DROP
Govt Policy Blamed (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, April 21. A decrease of 12 per eent in the amount of fertiliser bought by farmers in the first three months of this year was blamed on the Government’s “unco-ordinated farming policies” by Mr C. J. Moyle (Opp., Manukau), at a meeting in Hamilton last night. Because of Government fertiliser subsidies, more fertiliser had been used last year, and pastures were richer than ever and more feed was available. The Government, however, had not done anything before to provide an increased supply of stock, and the net result had been an inflation in stock values, instead of stock numbers, said Mr Moyle. Farmers needed more stock to eat the extra grass, but were unable to get it, so they had wasted a large amount of feed. Disillusioned by this, they were buying less fertiliser this year.
