Freight Contract Let By N.A.C.
(New Zealand Press Association)
WELLINGTON, April 21. N.A.C. and Straits Air Freight Express have concluded a contract under which S.A.F.E. will provide a fixed number of flying hours under a five-year contract to N.A.C.
“This will enable the corporation to implement progressively its policy of retiring its DC3 freighter aircraft,” said the chairman of
N.A.C. (Sir Andrew McKee). N.A.C. would still carry freight on its passenger aircraft to the maximum capacity. S.A.F.E. would be used to supplement this capacity, he said. “When the new jet aircraft are introduced it is expected the freight capacity in their holds will enable the bulk of the main trunk freight to be carried in the corporation’s own aircraft. “The freight capacity of Friendships is limited and it is probable that supplementary capacity will be required on secondary routes for some time after the introduction of the jets,” Sir Andrew McKee said.
