NEW IMPORT SCHEDULE
Possible Effect On Exports fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 21. The Exports and Shipping Council is concerned that recent cuts in the import licensing schedule could have an adverse effect on New Zealand’s export trade. The cuts could reduce New Zealand's bargaining power in negotiations for the continuation of trading privileges in Britain and increase the cost of shipping exports overseas. The negotiations are due to be held in London in June. The council’s chairman, Sir John Ormond, today had a meeting with the Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall), the Minister of Customs (Mr Shelton), and the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake). Both Sir John Ormond and Mr Marshall declined to comment after the meeting which lasted half an hour. Sir John Ormond was accompanied by the shipping manager of the Meat Board, Mr H. M. Douglas.
