Obituary MR C, JOUGHIN

A well known Christchurch bandsman and orchestral player, Mr Cleave Joughin. died recently. He was 82. Mr Joughin was a member of Derry's Military Band for more than 60 years, and was bandmaster and solo cornet until his retirement. As a boy he was a member of the Woolston Band. He joined the late Mr Ted Derry when he formed Derry’s Band, which was then known as Derry's Private.

Mr Joughin was always ready to help any city or suburban bands, and he was never known to be late at any parades. For many years Mr Joughin played with the orchestras of Miss Bessie Macdonald and the late Geoffrey McCree. He was also a member of the 3YA Orchestra from its inception until bis retirement, and played for many operas in the Theatre Royal. Mr Jouhin was a member of the vestry of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Phillipstown, for many years. He was a master painter as was his father. He is survived by three sons and two daughters. ‘'i
